ENE 480 Week 6

 
Greetings on this beautiful Sunday!

This week in lecture we will discuss  Project Planning. While the notes are in the Lab 2 folder, the information is also pertinent to your Lab 1 write up. 

In lab this week, you will complete Lab 1 by conducting the calcium titration in triplicate.  Again, your titrant volumes should be within 5% relative standard deviation. If not, please check with Shardula or Joseph for assistance. Once you have completed the titration, you are to go to the Trans Lab to add your data to the Google form.  Be sure to complete calculations for alkalinity and calcium.  The requisite equations are in the Lab 1 handout. 

Many of the teams have not completed the Google form documenting data from Lab 1. It is critical that everyone provides the requisite information. It is important that you provide the exact sampling location. For example, state that you sampled the hall bubbler near Room 15XX, or that you sampled the water bottle dispensing station near Room 22XX.

Be sure to check in with either Joseph or Shardula before you leave the Trans Lab, showing them that you have added all of your data and calculated calcium and alkalinity. All data must be documented by the end of your lab this Tuesday or Thursday. 

Due this week: Participation Question 5.

Lab 1 Memo/Report is due on October 14 at 11:59 PM. Only one submission per team is required.

 Good evening, I hope you are had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break! On Monday, I will not lecture, but will be available in the classroom to answer any questions you may have about Lab 4 presentations and the final design project.  If you borrowed the CO2 monitor, charger, and USB cable over break, please make sure to bring them to lecture on Monday.  The data are to be downloaded before arriving in class. Failure to return the equipment in working order on the day specified will result in a zero for lab 4. You should be prepared to work on the final project during lab this week (and next).   Lab 4 presentations and reports and the participation question responses are due Friday, Dec. 2. Good evening, I hope you are all well and staying warm. We have a short week coming up. In lecture on Monday, I will discuss the final project and provide additional guidance beyond what we discussed last week. Section 2 students: please arrive to class ready to turn in the CO2 monitor, charger and USB cable before class.  The data are to be downloaded before arriving in class. Failure to return the equipment in working order on the day specified will result in a zero for lab 4. There is no lab this week for either Section 1 or Section 2 students. If you would like to work on the final project on Tuesday afternoon, please email Joseph to make arrangements.  There is no participation question this week. Enjoy Thanksgiving and rest! LSI Lab clarification

 Greetings,  Please note that Section 2 students are to  Collect samples at only one location (see the white board in the lab for assignments) Collect one hot water sample and one cold water sample for calcium determination. These samples will be collected in the bottles containing nitric acid. Label properly and place in the refrigerator in lab.  Collect one hot water sample and one cold water sample for all other determinations (pH, temperature, conductivity, and alkalinity) Note any color, turbidity, or smell associated with the water samples Determine all parameters in triplicate and calculate the mean and standard deviation.  All students: Make sure to upload your data onto the Google sheet .  If you don't know your team number, check the team assignment sheet on LON-CAPA.
