The Detroit District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is actively recruiting top engineering students for both recent graduate and student trainee positions in our Detroit, MI district office. Civil/Environmental Engineer Develop and analyze designs, drawings, proposals, scopes of work, specifications, and cost estimates for projects and design changes during construction • Perform design calculations and analyses for civil engineering and water resources features including navigation locks and dams, flood protection projects, navigation structures, and ecosystem restoration within the District program • Interpret design documents and oversee the proper execution of projects during construction • Perform layout and scheduling of operations to include inspection, quality control, and assurance activities for materials, methods, and equipment used in construction
Mechanical Engineer
Accomplish professional mechanical engineering work on investigations, studies, analysis, design and modification of mechanical features of various projects • Develop preliminary and final designs and plans for mechanical features; systems characteristically include heating, ventilating & air conditioning (HVAC), hydraulic fluid power systems, machinery design, diesel power plants, pumps systems, compressed air systems, plumbing, piping and related control systems • Prepare calculation, reports, drawings, cost estimates and technical specifications for mechanical features
Recent graduate: To be eligible must be a student nine months prior to graduation or currently hold a degree by an institution of higher education not more than 2 years before the date of the appointment (earliest graduation date Dec-2020), except in the case of a person completing a period of obligated uniformed service of more than four years, awarded date must be not more than 4 years before the date of the appointment. Student trainee: Positions are open to current students pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges) or other qualifying educational institution on at least a half-time basis, as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled. - This position offers the flexibility of telework eligibility, but is not a full remote position
- Students may be appointed to any applicable position under the Competitive Service Student Trainee Positions, that lead to qualification in a two-grade interval professional occupational series, allowing for the student's growth and development towards the target position.

VIRTUAL CAREER EXCHANGES
Virtual Career Exchanges are engagement events that encourage networking between students, alumni, and recruiting professionals that will open the door to co-op, intern, and full-time opportunities.
These events will all be virtual! Register to attend the fair on Handshake, and then sign up for 1:1 and group sessions with the employers you'd like to meet with. On the day of the fair, simply log into Handshake, navigate to the fair page, and click on the My Sessions tab to start your meetings. Make sure you are using Google Chrome.
