The Detroit District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is actively recruiting top engineering students for both recent graduate and student trainee positions in our Detroit, MI district office. Civil/Environmental Engineer Develop and analyze designs, drawings, proposals, scopes of work, specifications, and cost estimates for projects and design changes during construction • Perform design calculations and analyses for civil engineering and water resources features including navigation locks and dams, flood protection projects, navigation structures, and ecosystem restoration within the District program • Interpret design documents and oversee the proper execution of projects during construction • Perform layout and scheduling of operations to include inspection, quality control, and assurance activities for materials, methods, and equipment used in construction

 Mechanical Engineer

Accomplish professional mechanical engineering work on investigations, studies, analysis, design and modification of mechanical features of various projects • Develop preliminary and final designs and plans for mechanical features; systems characteristically include heating, ventilating & air conditioning (HVAC), hydraulic fluid power systems, machinery design, diesel power plants, pumps systems, compressed air systems, plumbing, piping and related control systems  • Prepare calculation, reports, drawings, cost estimates and technical specifications for mechanical features

Recent graduate: To be eligible must be a student nine months prior to graduation or currently hold a degree by an institution of higher education not more than 2 years before the date of the appointment (earliest graduation date Dec-2020), except in the case of a person completing a period of obligated uniformed service of more than four years, awarded date must be not more than 4 years before the date of the appointment. Student trainee: Positions are open to current students pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges) or other qualifying educational institution on at least a half-time basis, as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled. VIRTUAL CAREER EXCHANGES

Virtual Career Exchanges are engagement events that encourage networking between students, alumni, and recruiting professionals that will open the door to co-op, intern, and full-time opportunities. 

These events will all be virtual! Register to attend the fair on Handshake, and then sign up for 1:1 and group sessions with the employers you'd like to meet with. On the day of the fair, simply log into Handshake, navigate to the fair page, and click on the My Sessions tab to start your meetings. Make sure you are using Google Chrome.  Good evening, I hope you are had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break! On Monday, I will not lecture, but will be available in the classroom to answer any questions you may have about Lab 4 presentations and the final design project.  If you borrowed the CO2 monitor, charger, and USB cable over break, please make sure to bring them to lecture on Monday.  The data are to be downloaded before arriving in class. Failure to return the equipment in working order on the day specified will result in a zero for lab 4. You should be prepared to work on the final project during lab this week (and next).   Lab 4 presentations and reports and the participation question responses are due Friday, Dec. 2. The final project is due Monday, Dec. 12 at 11:59 PM.  The final participation question responses will be due at the same time. All the best, Dr. Masten

ENE 480 Week 13

Good evening, I hope you are all well and staying warm. We have a short week coming up. In lecture on Monday, I will discuss the final project and provide additional guidance beyond what we discussed last week. Section 2 students: please arrive to class ready to turn in the CO2 monitor, charger and USB cable before class.  The data are to be downloaded before arriving in class. Failure to return the equipment in working order on the day specified will result in a zero for lab 4. There is no lab this week for either Section 1 or Section 2 students. If you would like to work on the final project on Tuesday afternoon, please email Joseph to make arrangements.  There is no participation question this week. Enjoy Thanksgiving and rest! LSI Lab clarification

 Greetings,  Please note that Section 2 students are to  Collect samples at only one location (see the white board in the lab for assignments) Collect one hot water sample and one cold water sample for calcium determination. These samples will be collected in the bottles containing nitric acid. Label properly and place in the refrigerator in lab.  Collect one hot water sample and one cold water sample for all other determinations (pH, temperature, conductivity, and alkalinity) Note any color, turbidity, or smell associated with the water samples Determine all parameters in triplicate and calculate the mean and standard deviation.  All students: Make sure to upload your data onto the Google sheet .  If you don't know your team number, check the team assignment sheet on LON-CAPA.
